JAM CHRISTMAS FOLLIES
Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra
50th Anniversary (1973-2023)
The Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra, now in its 50th year, was founded in 1973 by saxophonist/clarinetist, Jerry Floor, and trumpeter, Bill Crismon. Then known as the Floor/Crismon Big Band, the ensemble performed for conventions, parties and backed performers that came through Salt Lake City. The Floor/Crismon big band would later become known as The JAM Band and, in 2004, as an important component of the Salt Lake City International Jazz Festival, Mayor Rocky Anderson and TV host, Larry King, named the band, The Salt Lake City Jazz Orchestra. (SLCJO)
Floor family world class performers with the band include vocalist, Denny Floor, saxophonist, Greg Floor, and pianist/vocalist, Emilee Floor. Denny has been singing with the band for many years. Greg now lives in the Boston area where he performs on occasion with the Boston Pops. After nearly 12 years, Emilee returned to Salt Lake City from New York City just in time to avoid the Pandemic. She is once again performing when called upon to perform with the SLCJO.
The SLCJO has backed many entertainers that include Elvis Presley, Seth Macfarlane, Doc Severinsen, Johnny Mathis and many others. They also include a host of jazz performers like Phil Woods, Eddie Daniels, Nancy Wilson, Clarke Terry, and possibly 100 more.
The SLCJO is Salt Lake City’s “Lab Band” as well. The band invites music students and composer/arrangers to bring their skills to the rehearsals for educational purposes. The eighteen piece SLCJO is a major music force in Salt Lake City and Utah.
The band is the featured orchestra for the JAM CHRISTMAS FOLLIES, now in its third year. While the band’s roster is seventeen, the SLCJO includes some 30 to 35 great musicians to sustain the band.
